Ceramic drawing tutorial :

Finally the tutorial I have been promising , I have finally finished my design on my "tea for one" set  and I have broken the steps down so it should be fairly simple to follow.

What you will need : your ceramic item you would like to draw on, carbon paper, A ceramic pen (I used Porcelaine 150 in black 0.7) an image you would like to use and some tape.
Note: using a flatter surface for your first time may prove much easier.

Step 1: stick your image to the carbon paper and cut off the excess . . .  you can draw directly onto the ceramic with the pen (skip to step 4) however I find it much easier to have a guideline and this is what the carbon paper creates. Also it wipes off without leaving any trace on the mug/ teapot.

Step 2: stick the carbon paper with your image onto the mug/ teapot , make sure your image is sitting flat. Draw round your image with a fine pen .

Step 3: peel of the carbon paper , you should be left with a faint outline of the image you have just traced.

Step 4: now using your pen draw onto your object, with the porcelain pens I find doing a single layer gives a crisper line so try and keep the flow of the ink steady by adding slight pressure when drawing.

Step 5 : once the ink has dried, wipe off the carbon residue with a dry cloth.

Step 6: Leave the drawing to dry and set for up to 72 hours then place in the oven.

Step 7: Once your item is in the oven put your oven on its maximum temperature , leave for 30 minutes. Doing this will set the ink and make your item safe to wash.

Step 8: turn your oven off but leave your item inside . .  this will allow your object to cool down slowly and avoid cracking under the pressure.

Give your item a thorough clean and then show it off to all your friends !
